Foundations of Engineering and Technology
Foundations of Engineering and Technology is a course designed around UAH’s EXCITE project. EXCITE provides students with an opportunity to design and 3D print a theoretical scientific CubeSat to be accommodate on a P-POD satellite in Low Earth Orbit. This course is so exciting and hands-on that students will have no idea they are hitting every standard.
Applications of Engineering and Technology
Applications of Engineering and Technology is designed to integrate exciting hands-on mini-modules (designed to meet the standards) for each topic presented in this survey style course. Students will dive deeper into course content when they have the opportunity to use the knowledge gained from hands-on mini-modules to make decisions on how to design a theoretical payload for an InSPIRESS mission – a project where students develop and design a scientific payload to be accommodated on a spacecraft all the while learning key engineering skills like: understanding engineering requirements, the design process, decision analysis and how to communicate to various stakeholders.
STEM Technologies I
STEM Technologies I is a course designed around UAH’s DETECTS project. DETECTS provides students with an opportunity to perform a scientific experiment and analyze data collected from actual high-altitude balloons. This course is only 9 weeks but is packed with engaging and exciting content that meets every standard.
STEM Technologies II
STEM Technologies II is a course designed to meet standards all while having the students work to develop a design solution in response to a theoretical disaster. STEM Technologies II takes a new spin on the classic egg-drop activity where students have to come up with a design solution to deploy theoretical oil clean-up technology to a specific area of the ocean. This course will introduce students to the key steps from Missile Defense Agency’s 10 Steps to Intercept as well as give a great real life experience for precision and accuracy testing with actual student egg drop data.
